Glen : The Choice Was Easy

Glen Johnson appeared in a calm and composed mood during his first press conference as a Liverpool player following his lucrative £18 million switch from south coast club Portsmouth, revealing to the attending press that making the move to the Anfield outfit was an "easy" decision. The defender, who vastly improved his game last season and firmly established himself as England manager Fabio Capello's first choice right-back, claimed that working under the tutelage of Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez was a key reason in signing for the Reds. Johnson noted that, despite Chelsea's reported interest, there was only one destination for him. "When I left Chelsea I needed to play games so I'm grateful to Portsmouth for taking me on," he enunciated clearly to the nation's journalists. "Hopefully I've shown people a greater perspective of what I can do. I want to try and do what I did last season, with Liverpool, and also push on."  The Greenwich-born West Ham United academy product continued, "Even though I'm from south London, the first kit I had was a Liverpool one, but don't ask! I don't know how that happened!" On the decision to sign for Liverpool ahead of a return to west London club Chelsea, Johnson said, "It was easy. Rafael Benitez was keen to help me improve and turn me into the best player that I can be. "According to the press there was a lot of interest [from Chelsea], but when I knew of Liverpool, it was an easy decision." Liverpool will be the fifth club that Johnson will have signed for. He received his footballing education at West Ham, before enjoying a loan spell at Isle of Dogs side Millwall. He then signed for Chelsea, becoming the first addition in the Blues' money-laden era bankrolled by Roman Abramovich. After failing to establish himself he left for Portsmouth, where he began to display the exceptional form that booked his Liverpool transfer

Steve McNair-Sahel Kazemi 911 Call Released

The 911 tape placed after Steve McNair and girlfriend Sahel Kazemi were discovered dead has just been released by the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The late NFL star's friend, Robert Gaddy, made the call and was hysterical as the dispatcher desperately tried to get information from him on what happened.

Wayne Neely, Steve McNair's roommate at the Nashville condo where he was found, initially discovered the bodies and notified Gaddy to make the 911 call.

Cops announced yesterday that they believe Sahel Kazemi murdered Steve and then killed herself in a grisly murder-suicide. The two were having an affair.

Steve McNair, 36, was married to Mechelle McNair (belw), and had been since 1997. It is not believed Mechelle knew about Sahel Kazemi, 20, or vice versa.

Michael Owen Could Become Premier League's Top Scorer

Former Newcastle United manager Graeme Souness has stated that Michael Owen will become a success, after his shock transfer to Manchester United. The England international moved on a free transfer to Old Trafford yesterday, after his contract with the Magpies expired. It was expected that he would move to a mid-table Premier League club, but Sir Alex Ferguson surprised everyone by snapping up the experienced striker. Souness feels the transfer was a great piece of business for the club, and said that they will soon see the benefits. Speaking to The Telegraph, Souness said, "It is a fabulous bit of business by Sir Alex Ferguson. Whatever deal goes through, whether it is pay as you play or something else, it will work out well because Michael is still only 29 and he hasn't lost any of his desire.

"Nor does he have any medical problems to stop him from becoming a top player and possibly the top scorer in the Premier League. When I was at Newcastle, I only had him for 10 games because of injury and we won the majority of them thanks to Michael."

Despite reports to the contrary, the Scotsman also feels Owen will have a big part to play in Ferguson's team.

"Michael could be about to enter the best period of his career. He will be playing for the best team he has ever played for; that's bad news for my old club, Liverpool, and I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't want him back, but then again everyone sees things differently.

"I think Michael is an extremely dangerous animal; he's been criticised by almost everyone recently and, with that in mind, Old Trafford will be the perfect environment for him to thrive in."

The former Magpies manager also feels the move will reignite the ex-Liverpool player's international career.

"I have no doubts whatsoever that Michael will be at the World Cup finals next year with England, and Sir Bobby Charlton's England goal-scoring record will be under serious threat again.

"I am a big fan of Michael and am certain he will be a resounding success at Manchester Untied – and that is good news for Fabio Capello."

Owen has filled the gap left by Carlos Tevez at Old Trafford, with the Argentine striker expected to complete a move to Manchester rivals Manchester City over the next few weeks.

Owen joins United

Manchester United is delighted to announce that it has signed Michael Owen on a two-year contract. The striker was out of contract, so no transfer fee is involved.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Michael is a world class forward with a proven goalscoring record at the highest level and that has never been in question. Coming to Manchester United with the expectations that we have is something that Michael will relish.”

Michael Owen said: "I had just begun to talk to other clubs when out of the blue Sir Alex phoned me on Wednesday afternoon, invited me to have breakfast with him the next morning during which he told me that he wanted to sign me. I agreed without a moment's thought.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I intend to seize it with both hands. I am now looking forward to being a Manchester United player and I am fortunate that I already know so many of the players here. I missed pre-season last year and am pleased that I will be starting at Carrington from day one.

"I want to thank Sir Alex for the faith he has shown in me and I give him my assurance that I will repay him with my goals and performances.”
